the database could not be accessed ACT error

The database could not be accessed. In order to access this database, check your network connection and verify that your database server is available. It may be necessary to disable any firewall software on your computer or server.

I have no idea why this message suddenly appears on my computer from time to time but it drives me crazy trying to fix it, so this post is my fix for my situation. Yours may vary.

my set up
computer: Dell
internet: secure high speed
software: Act Sage Premium for Workgroups 2007 9.0 EX edition Version 9.0.1.162, hotfix 1.
I’m no longer using this as a workgroups project. Basically my DB exists on my computer only.

the problem: I can open other databases or create a new one. I cannot open the one I use daily. I select to open and it requests user name and password. After pressing enter, the error appears.
- Network Connections: the network is fine- I can access the internet
- My Network Places- some time ago when I was fixing this, I now have a bunch of names on here under “local network”. Each has one of my ACT database names. The one I’m trying to access is not listed. I leave them whether I need them there or not.

the fix: first, close all programs reboot PC. Wait for system to finish whatever it does. open outlook. get email. Usually when this happens the other stuff seems to work. Probably just the amount of time- if I boot ACT too soon, the SQL server doesn’t get going.

following fix here http://kb.sagesoftwareonline.com/cgi-bin/sagesoftwareonline.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=19640&p_created=1160838337&p_sid=dVMqw6dj&p_accessibility=0&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9MSZwX3Byb2RzPTAmcF9jYXRzPSZwX3B2PSZwX2N2PSZwX3NlYXJjaF90eXBlPWFuc3dlcnMuc2VhcmNoX25sJnBfcGFnZT0xJnBfc2VhcmNoX3RleHQ9MTk2NDA*&site_ID=1&p_li=&p_topview=1#s4

Police Chief Licata now a permanent employee

LIGHTHOUSE POINT – After serving the City of Lighthouse Point for six years as a contract worker, Licata becomes a permanent employee effective October 2009.

Future plans include installing cameras at city parks, and at the entrances to the community to capture the license plates of all vehicles entering and leaving Lighthouse Point.

“The majority of arrests that we are making are of people that are coming in from outside communities,” Licata explained in a Sun Sentinel report. “We’ve got to be vigilant in our efforts to monitor people that are coming and going.”

Both initiatives would be free for Lighthouse Point because Licata plans to use forfeiture funds gained through the department’s partnership with the DEA.
