Take your assessed property value with you when you move, so you keep the same tax base. What a terrible idea that is being roundly supported and heavily lobbied by the real estate industry. This is a short term fix to a long term problem.
Pros: Immediate benefit for those who feel they are ‘stuck in their home’ because they can’t afford the higher property tax when they move. Surely this will spur additional home sales, directly benefitting realtors. It does nothing to solve the underlying tax problem of spending more than the citizens can afford; does nothing to fix the burden on businesses, rentals and 2nd homes.
Cons: How does this work when moving across town and across counties? Nightmarish management to track. (Does this mean they’ll want to tie your SS# to the deal too and create another way for personal data to be exposed to more security risks?)
