BROWARD COUNTY, FL – As part of the Ocean Conservancy’s 38th Annual International Coastal Cleanup, Broward County’s Natural Resources Division is organizing a beach cleanup at 12 different locations in the community.
During the International Coastal Cleanup Day in 2022, more than 2,000 Broward County volunteers removed over 42,000 pieces of trash, weighing nearly 6,000 pounds. Their efforts contributed to the 206,000+ volunteers worldwide who removed more than 6 million pieces of trash, nearly 5 million pounds, in just one day. You can help make this year even bigger.

Visit Broward’s Coastal Cleanup website for more details and site location map. You can also search the International Coastal Cleanup global map to find additional cleanup sites.
REGISTER: To volunteer, email coastalcleanup@broward.org. Be sure to include your contact information, the site you prefer and the number of people you have in your group. Single individuals can also participate and kids of all ages are welcome, with the direct supervision of a parent or legal guardian.
Volunteers should bring a hat, sunscreen, gloves and water. Materials for the cleanup are provided by Broward County (trash bags, gloves, data cards). “Save a Bag!” Volunteers are encouraged to bring buckets to collect trash, a great way to minimize the number of bags accumulated at the end of an event. After your participation, you will receive an event t-shirt (limited amount) and community service hours (if needed).
The Coastal Cleanup is part of a year-round effort to find solutions for marine debris, which can damage sensitive coastal habitats and kill thousands of wildlife, including birds and fish, each year. Every piece of trash volunteers find will be tracked and included in the Ocean Trash Index, the world’s largest database on marine litter. Volunteers will also collect information about the items found that will be given to the Ocean Conservancy to learn more about the global debris problem, develop ways to educate the public and find solutions. Volunteers can contribute to this database in real-time using the Clean Swell app, available for free on the App Store and Google Play.
