April, 2020:

Lighthouse Point Fuel dock reopened to public April 9 amid Coronavirus crisis

Due to coronavirus social distancing issues, Broward County ordered fuel docks closed but Lighthouse Point Marina fuel dock just re-opened to public again April 9, 2020. Please don’t pile a bunch of people on your boats and raft off each other. That’s what drove the county decision to shut down fuel for non-commercial needs.

This is the text from the old order. Designated private and municipal marinas and certain marina services are deemed as essential services. Maritime exemptions are described as:

“Private and municipal marinas and boat launches, docking, fueling, marine supply, and other marina services (not including piers), but only to the extent necessary to support the following limited operations:

  • to allow any person with a commercial saltwater license issued by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to enter and use Broward County owned or operated marinas for commercial fishing purposes only
  • to support patrol, enforcement, and rescue activity by federal, state, or local government agencies
  • to accommodate boats or ferries in support of Port Everglades operations:
  • to accommodate persons living aboard their vessels:
  • to accommodate persons returning to the United States from international voyages; or
  • to authorize persons needing to remove their vessel from the water or to perform emergency maintenance on a vessel, marinas, fueling stations, and marine supply services.”

Why malaria drug shows promise for treating Covid-19 coronavirus

A French human trial by Didier Raoult, MD PhD, Director of research groups in infectious diseases and microbiology followed a China shared study from by a well-known scientist that showed promise. Dr Raoult is the author and co-author of more than 2000 scientific publications!

Clinica trial excerpt: At day6 post-inclusion:
– 100% of patients treated with hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin combination were virologically cured
– 57.1% in patients treated with hydroxychloroquine only, were virologically cured
– 12.5% in the control group (p<0.001)were virologically cured.

Pessimists are spreading fake news that President Trump is promoting hydroxychloroquine because he will benefit from it financially. Trump, the FDA and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) worked together to get over 40M generic doses DONATED to the Strategic National Stockpile, now being distributed to those who want it. More solutions are being tested, but for those doctors and patients who need something right now, thankfully, they have a choice.

Both drugs were not previously stockpiled. I suspect that getting anything donated to the national stockpile is unprecedented, but I did not research. This is when Americans should open up and say, “thanks”! Chances are drug companies will get orders in the future, but that’s a big if. For the moment, leaders across industries are doing the right thing now to save lives.

Who to call to get roadkill picked up in Lighthouse Point?

Who do you call when there’s a dead opossum or other animal in the road in Lighthouse Point, Florida? The Lighthouse Point department of public works at 954-946-7386. I don’t know why we have more animals dead in the road when everyone is staying at home amid our coronavirus crisis, but there certainly seems to be an uptick.

Do you have an annoying opossum or iguana in your yard? For those and other vermin you’ll need to call an animal service that you pay for. The city takes care of their property and you have to take cared of yours.

If you find a dead or injured pet, you might want to go to Nextdoor.com and post it there. We have a pretty good community connecting missing pets with their owners. The police have been known to keep a lookout too.
