New grocery store coming to Lighthouse Point?

From the June 28 Lighthouse Point minutes comes interesting development news. “City Attorney Cirullo gave a brief summary of the process for commercial projects requiring platting, saying that Florida Retail Stores, LLC (Gordon Food Service (GFS)), submitted an application for Final Plat approval to allow for the construction of a 15,856 SF marketplace/specialty food store, and a 6,000 SF general retail building at 3260 North Federal Highway. Commissioners discussed the development review process in general, including City Commission involvement during the process.”

Also noteworthy, “Public Requests from the Floor:
Mooneer Kahn, owner of Pompano One Price Dry Cleaners in Lighthouse Point, asked City Commissioners for an update on his request in February to consider allowing his Lighthouse Point location to receive clothes from another location, and also, to have more than five employees. City Administrator Lavisky responded that Administration would need nine to twelve months from the applicant’s request before any recommendations can be made.”

I don’t know any of the particulars, but as a business owner, waiting nearly a year to find out if you can grow your business seems like a long time if there is no building expansion. I’m betting the key here is questioning the environmental impact, but surely such a small town can move faster than this?
